This new IFSTA manual details the training required of Company Officers according to NFPA® 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, 2014 Edition. The manual is divided into two sections to make a clear distinction between the information needed for Fire Officer Level I and Fire Officer Level II. Both print and eBook formats are available. There is no shortage of issues that a company officer might face in the everyday operation of a fire company or unit. By merging related topics, the number of chapters was reduced from 32 in the fourth edition to 17 in the new manual while preserving the material related to the NFPA® standard. The number of appendices was reduced from 20 to 4 by removing information that can be found in other media. Along with reducing the volume of material from the fourth edition, the fifth edition of Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer offers several new features. The manual features a new look with IFSTA's single-column format and upgraded and updated curriculum components. Learning activities are included to help instructors present the material to their students. Case Histories open each chapter to illustrate important lessons learned in the real world. Photographs, illustrations, and tables are included throughout the manual to illustrate key points and improve the overall instructional value of the material.

I have read the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions of IFSTA's company officer texts and this edition was BY FAR better then the 4th Edition. They cut out a massive amount of the unnecessary fluff that permeated the 4th edition. There are still a few areas where they delve a little too deep into subjects that belong in a separate text (like Fire Investigation) but it's a good text overall. It seems the authors are learning the value of encouraging the reader to learn (from other sources) about matters which are specific to their areas. For example, the 4th edition spent innumerable pages describing the differences between various forms of city government in completely unnecessary detail. Fortunately that was cut out of the 4th Edition. As was the overly detailed description of 15 different leadership styles and theories. Bravo IFSTA, for realizing you don't need to make your books all-encompassing.Product details

Good book cuts out a lot of the theories from the prior book.

This is a very helpful book. I am taking my Fire Officer One class online and I can't be more happy. The shipping was very fast and it comes straight from IFSTA.
When preparing for a civil service exam it is always good for a refresh of basics from the academy, but this gets you ready to be a supervisor. Solid book!
Much easier read than the previous edition. I haven’t read the whole thing yet but it seems so far that the information is more practical than the last book.
Poorly written and has an amazing amount of worthless information. Text is written as a technical document which is the opposite of what a human brain needs when trying to learn from reading. It's obvious the book was written purely as testable material instead of educating. Also, the book was obviously written by a board who erred on adding as much extraneous words and material as possible instead of simply getting to the point.
One of the worst books I've read! I expect much better publishing coming from a top end fire protection program. OSU and IFSTA... you should be ashamed! I found multiple errors and conflicting information, especially when comparing COI and COII. I didn't casually read this book. I read it 5 times for a promotional exam. The info is okay at best, but if I were you, I would look for another CO book. Overpriced and poorly edited!
